Performance and speed of a website has always been a hot topic for every Miva Merchant site owner. Rick Wilson of Miva Merchant recently posted a reply on the Miva Merchant Community Forum that outlines four key things that you can do to ensure you have the fastest Miva Merchant site possible:
First and foremost make sure you’re using and writing efficient code. Bruce Golub (of Phosphor Media) recently wrote an excellent Forum post (I’ll link to it as soon as I find it again) about this and I believe is working on a semi regular guest spot on our blog about this topic. Bruce has a keen understanding of our to speed up complex websites, especially on Miva Merchant.
Second make sure you’re only using modules and items on pages you absolutely need, every thing you add to your store adds a little bit of overhead, when combined this can have a massive impact.
Third obviously make sure you’ve fully optimized all of your images and you’re not using HTML or CSS to resize bloated images. That may look ok, but will hurt you.
Finally if you’ve done the top 3 and your site is still on the lower end of the speed spectrum, you need to look into either a more powerful box (ensure you’re on a high quality host, which I’m sure you are, then you can look at semi dedicated or dedicated perhaps) or a much cheaper alternative is Phosphor Media’s Merchant Optimizer.
